Manuscript Monday: Ms. Codex 1661 – Arts and sciences : chemistry. (Video Orientation)

Dot Porter, Curator, Digital Research Services at the University of Pennsylvania Library, presents a video orientation to Ms. Codex 1661, a collection of recipes (numbered 1-253 with many errors) for alchemical and practical applications such as making candles, butter, varnish, many types of ink (including a recipe for “magic ink”), sealant for waterproofing shoes, cement for mending broken china or glass, and occasional medicinal uses. Written in England in 1777.
